PACIFIC LUAU: Bruins Take First in 10 Events at Pacific Luau Meet
FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Led by double-event winners Irene
Johnson and Dakari Kongela, the George Fox University Bruins
captured 10 events in all at the Pacific University Luau track and
field meet Saturday here at Lincoln Park Stadium.
The Bruin women won seven events, led by Johnson’s
first-place times in the 100 meter dash (12.88) and the 100 meter
hurdles (15.41). Although not her best marks of
the season in those events, Johnson already stands first in the 100
in the Northwest Conference and third in the 100 hurdles.
Other winning women for the Bruins were Rachel Meis in the 200
meter dash (27.12), Mollie Honan in the 400 meter dash (1:01.61),
Connie Evjen in the pole vault (9-0.25 / 2.75), Emily Hodgin in the
triple jump (34-10.5 / 10.63), and Hana Fisher in the hammer (119-7
/ 36.46). Hodgin’s triple jump mark moved
her into second place in the NWC standings.
Kongela captured the men’s long jump (21-4.25 / 6.51) and
the triple jump (41-7 / 12.67). He already stood
fourth in the NWC in the long jump, and moved into sixth in the
triple jump.
Garrett Blizzard won the men’s 400 meter dash with a time of
49.50, moving into second in the NWC. His time
was also only one second off an NCAA Division III provisional
qualifying mark for the National Championships.
Among the second-place finishers for the Bruin women were Meis in
the 100 (13.24), Lizzy Alaimo in the 100 hurdles (16.09), Marlee
Zakrevsky in the hammer (109-9 / 33.46), and Fisher in the javelin
(108-2 / 32.98).
The only second for the George Fox men was by the 4x400 meter
relay “B” team of Jacob Cuniff, Ryan Erickson, Ryan
Lane and Bradley Higgins, which posted a time of 3:37.09, less than
two seconds behind the University of Puget Sound’s
“A” team.
A few of the Bruins will be back in action Monday and Tuesday in
the Northwest Conference Multi-Events at Puget Sound in Tacoma,
Wash. The next event for the full squads will be
the Lewis & Clark Invitational in Portland on Friday-Saturday,
Apr. 17-18.
