WILLAMETTE LAST CHANCE: Bruins Win Four Events in Final Meet before Nationals

Willamette Last Chance Results (M&W)

SALEM, Ore. – Irene Johnson won two races and the George Fox University Bruins captured four events in all as the regular track and field season came to a close in the Willamette University Last Chance meet Thursday afternoon here at the Charles Bowles Track.

Johnson took first place in the women’s 100 meter dash with a time of 12.78 and the 100 meter hurdles in 14.81, the latter an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.  However, she already has a school-record 14.47 in the hurdles, which currently ranks 10th nationally.

Cindy Walsh won the women’s long jump with a distance of 18-1.50 / 5.52m, also an NCAA provisional mark but just short of her best jump of the season at 18-1.75 / 5.53m.  She is tied for 35th nationally.

Women’s seconds were posted by Emily Hodgin in the women’s triple jump (34-8.25 / 10.57m), Marlee Zakrevsky in the hammer (133-2 / 40.58m), Beth Stam in the javelin (136-9 / 41.69m), Mollie Honan in the 400 meter hurdles (1:06.39), Rachel Meis in the 100 (13.12), and Lizzy Alaimo in the 100 hurdles (14.91).  Hana Fisher took third in the hammer (127-11 / 39.00m).

Stam and Alaimo both met NCAA provisional marks.   Stam is already 7th nationally in the javelin with a 142-0 / 53.28m, while Alaimo would be 26th in the hurdles when this week’s results are posted with the NCAA.

Garrett Blizzard was the only Bruin men’s winner with a 49.98 in the 400 meter dash.  Seconds went to Dakari Kongela in the 100 meter dash (10.89), Sam McKenzie in the high jump (6-0.75 / 1.85m), and David Dillow in the 400 (54.23).
