LEWIS & CLARK INVITATIONAL: Bruins Place 9th in Season-Opening Event

ESTACADA, Ore. - Led by senior Cam Eberhart's 13th-place finish, the George Fox University Bruins came in 9th out of 12 teams in their season-opening men's cross country race in the Lewis & Clark College Invitational Saturday afternoon here at McIver State Park.

The Bruins scored 220 points, just behind Corban College's 216.  Western Oregon University collected 51 points to win the event, well ahead of runner-up Linfield College's 71. 

Eberhart posted a time of 26:24.10 to finish 13th overall and 12th for team scoring.  Also counting for George Fox were Bradley Higgins with a 28:10:50 (55th/43rd), Allen Cassel with a 28:43:30 (68th/53rd), Chad Sutfin with a 28:44.90 (69th/54th), and Austin Morrell with a 29:00.40 (74th/58th).  Also running for the Bruins were Mike Calavan with a 29:53.50 (89th) and Ryan Erickson with a 32:22.30 (107th).

Chris Reed of Western Oregon took top honors with a mark of 25:29.80, edging Shawn Fisher of Linfield, who had a 25:36.40.

Several ex-George Fox athletes ran as the Bruin Track Club, with Grant Finney posting the best time of the group and placing 12th overall with a time of 26:23.50.

The next race for the Bruin men is the Willamette University Grass Course meet, a 7.1K event, Friday at 5:45 p.m. at Bush's Pasture Park in Salem, Ore.
