MXC: CONCORDIA/PUMA CLASSIC - Bruins Take 10th in Concordia 4-Mile Race

PORTLAND, Ore. - In a final tune-up before they run in the Northwest Conference Championship in two weeks, the George Fox University Bruins finished 10th out of 11 teams in the men's cross country four-mile race at the Concordia University/PUMA Classic held Saturday afternoon here at Fernhill Park.

The Bruins totaled a five-runner score of 266 points.  Southern Oregon University coasted to victory with 36 points, well ahead of the runner-up University of Victoria, which had 66 points.  The University of British Columbia came in third with 68 points, followed by host Concordia with 98, Simon Fraser University with 99, Everett Community College with 157, Treasure Valley Community College with 248, Xavier University of Ohio with 257, a group of Southern Oregon unattached runners with 264, George Fox, and Green River Community College with 330.

Cam Eberhart, as he has all season, led the Bruins with a time of 21:43, finishing 51st overall and 38th for team scoring.  Also counting for George Fox were Chad Sutfin with a time of 22:28 (81st/52nd), Allen Cassel with a 22:30 (84th/53rd), Austin Morrell with a 23:11 (105th/61st), and Ryan Erickson with a 23:12 (106th/62nd).  Mike Calavan rounded out the Bruin entries with a time of 23:33 (112th).

The race was won by Matt Pieterson of Victoria with a time of 19:50, 10 seconds ahead of second-place Eric Burck of Concordia, running unattached.

Next for the Bruins is the Northwest Conference 8K Championship at McIver State Park near Estacada, Ore., on Saturday, Oct. 31.
