George Fox Softball Skills Camp for Ages 8-18 Pushed Back a Week to Oct. 16-17
NEWBERG, Ore. – Due to changes in the George Fox University softball fall practice schedule, the upcoming Softball Skills Camp for ages 8-18 that was originally planned for Oct. 9-10 has been pushed back a week to Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 16-17, at the Morse Softball Field on the north side of the Newberg campus.
The registration deadline has also been moved back a week to Friday, Oct. 8, with updated registration forms available on the GFU athletics website at http://athletics.georgefox.edu/camps/fallcamp2010-sb.qxd.pdf. A form may also be obtained by calling George Fox softball coach Jessica Hollen at 503-554-2921. Checks should be made out to “Bruin Softball” and returned to Coach Hollen at George Fox University, 414 N. Meridian St., Box 6147, Newberg, OR 97132.
A session for players ages 13-18 will he held from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 noon each day, followed by a session for ages 8-12 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. The cost is $50 per individual, discounted to $40 per person for teams of eight or more players or multiple people from one family enrolling together.
The camp will be conducted by Hollen, George Fox assistant coaches John Hollen, Dave Kellmer, and Ty Nicholson, and current Bruin players. Campers will work on individual defense, including the catching position, as well as offense. The coaches will break down the mechanics of each drill and use video analysis to help players improve their skills. Athletes should bring bats, softball gloves, a helmet, and any catching gear they might have. The attire should be athletic shorts or sweats/softball pants (no jeans), T-shirts, and tennis shoes or cleats.
