* Bruins Extend Marks for Best Start, Longest Winning Streak

With their wins over Whitworth and Whitman this past weekend, the 19-0 Bruins continued to extend two new records they set this season for the most wins at the start of a season and the most wins at any point in a season.  By defeating Lewis & Clark 59-39 on Jan. 9 in Portland, the Bruins set a new mark for best start to a season with their 12th straight win.  The 2001-02 and 2005-06 teams had opened the seasons with 11-0 runs before faltering in their 12th games.  The next night, their 52-47 win over Puget Sound gave them 13 consecutive wins, topping the previous best streak at any point in a season of 12 in a row from Dec. 18-Feb. 1 in 2007-08.  The Bruins have accomplished all this with only one senior, four upperclassmen in all, and nine freshmen who have played on the roster.

* Shielee Approaches Single-Season Record for Blocks

With 76 blocks thus far in 2008-09, Kristen Shielee is closing in on a new Bruin single-season record for blocked shots.  Her total is already the fourth-most ever, the only ones ahead of her being Melissa Marek-Farris (78 in 2007-08), Tammy Lewis (85 in 1988-89), and Lewis again (86 in 1986-87).  Shielee’s per-game average is 4.00, which would surpass Lewis’s season record of 3.44 blocks per game in 1986-87 (86 blocks in 25 games).
