Brandon Roy (Pro Athlete of the Year) Meets the George Fox Bruins (Team of the Year)

One of the highlights for the George Fox University Bruins' national championship women's basketball team at the 2009 Oregon Sports Awards on Jan. 31 was the opporunity to meet numerous outstanding amateur and professional athletes from all over the state, including Brandon Roy (pictured here with the Bruins), the Portland Trail Blazers' All-Star guard who was named the Harry Glickman Professional Athlete of the Year.

George Fox was one of three Oregon sports teams which won national championships in 2009, capturing the NCAA Division III title with a 60-53 win over the storied Washington University-St. Louis program in the title game in Holland, Mich., to complete a 32-0 season.  The Bruins thus earned the George Pasero Team of the Year award, along with the Northwest Blaze ASA under-16 girls' softball and University of Oregon NCAA Division I men's indoor track champions.

All-American center Kristen Shielee won the Ad Rutschman Small College Female Athlete of the Year award, and head coach Scott Rueck was one of five finalists for the Slats Gill Sportsperson of the Year award, which went to coach Chip Kelly of the Pac-10 champion Oregon football team.
