NEWBERG, Ore. – Adding yet another honor to her growing list of career awards, 6-5 center Hannah Munger of George Fox University has been named to the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball All-America Second Team for her outstanding 2010-11 season as selected by D3hoops.com.

Munger, a sophomore playing in her home town of Newberg, Ore., averaged 16.2 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.0 blocked shots a game while shooting .560 from the field.  She was the Northwest Conference leader in rebounding and blocks, ranked second in field goal percentage, and was third in scoring.  In NCAA Division III national statistics, she was 16th in field goal percentage, 22nd in blocked shots, and 23rd with 14 double-doubles in points and rebounds.

Munger scored in double figures 26 times, with a career high of 33 at Whitworth, and had double-digit rebounds 15 times, including a career-high 19 at Willamette. She had at least one blocked shot in 29 games, with a season-high vs. Chapman.  Her season points total of 502 is a new George Fox single-season record, her 313 rebounds and 93 blocks are both the third-best totals ever for a Bruin, and her .560 shooting mark is the sixth-best in team history.

Last year as a freshman, Munger was First Team All-NWC, Second Team All-West Region as chosen by D3hoops.com, and West Region Rookie of the Year.  This year, she repeated her All-NWC First Team and All-West Region honors before garnering All-America status, fulfilling a prediction made about her by former Bruin coach Scott Rueck, now the head coach at Oregon State University, when he recruited her out of high school.

With two more seasons to go, Munger already ranks second in career blocks at George Fox with 200, ninth in rebounds with 566, and is second in field goal percentage at .557.  With 884 points, she appears certain to become the 13th Bruin to score 1,000 career points early next season.

Munger was a key player for a highly-successful George Fox team under first-year coach Michael Meek in 2010-11.  The Bruins posted their 18th straight winning season with a 25-6 record, won their fifth straight Northwest Conference championship (shared with Lewis & Clark at 14-2), captured the NWC Tournament, and reached the “Elite 8” round of the NCAA National Tournament for the third year in a row.  George Fox was ranked sixth in the final USA Today / ESPN / Women’s Basketball Coaches Association national poll, and 12th in the final D3hoops.com poll.

Other Bruin post-season awards this season included First Team All-NWC and Second Team All-West Region honors for guard Keisha Gordon, a junior from Vancouver, Wash., and honorable mention All-NWC for Arianna Mohsenian, a junior from Yakima, Wash.
