ALL-WEST REGION: Munger Named Player of the Year, Gordon on Second Team
NEWBERG, Ore. – Center Hannah Munger of George Fox University has been named the NCAA Division III West Region Player of the Year and Bruin teammate Keisha Gordon, a standout wing, has been named to the All-West Region Second Team by D3hoops.com for their achievements during the 2010-11 women’s basketball season.
Munger, a sophomore from Newberg, Ore., and Gordon, a junior from Vancouver, Wash., were key components of a highly-successful George Fox team under first-year coach Michael Meek. The Bruins posted their 18th straight winning season with a 25-6 record, won their fifth straight Northwest Conference championship (shared with Lewis & Clark at 14-2), captured the NWC Tournament, and reached the “Elite 8” round of the NCAA National Tournament for the third year in a row.
A First Team All-Conference pick, Munger averaged 16.2 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.0 blocked shots a game while shooting .560 from the field. She led the conference in rebounding and blocks, ranked second in field goal percentage, and was third in scoring. In national statistics, she was 16th in field goal percentage, 22nd in blocked shots, and 23rd with 14 double-doubles in points and rebounds during the season.
Munger scored in double figures 26 times, with a career high of 33 at Whitworth, and had double-digit rebounds 15 times, including a career-high 19 at Willamette. She had at least one blocked shot in 29 games, with a season-high vs. Chapman. Her season points total of 502 is a new George Fox single-season record, her 313 rebounds and 93 blocks are both the third-best totals ever for a Bruin, and her .560 shooting mark is the sixth-best in team history.
Last year as a freshman, Munger was First Team All-NWC, Second Team All-West Region, and West Region Rookie of the Year. With two more seasons to go, she already ranks second in career blocks at George Fox with 200, ninth in rebounds with 566, and is second in field goal percentage at .557. With 884 points, she appears certain to become the 13th Bruin to score 1,000 career points early next season.

Gordon was also a First Team All-Conference choice while averaging 15.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.5 assists a game. She shot .464 from the field, led the team with a .755 free throw percentage, and was second on the team with 39 three-pointers. She was the conference leader in steals, and ranked second in assist/turnover ratio (1.24), third in assists, fifth in rebounding, sixth in scoring, seventh in free throw percentage, ninth in field goal percentage, and 12th in three-pointers per game (1.30).
Gordon reached double figures in points 25 times and in rebounds six times, with six double-doubles. She scored a season-high 27 points and made a season-high seven steals at Pacific Lutheran, had a high of 11 rebounds four times, and passed out a career-high nine assists vs. Louisiana College in the NCAA Tournament. Her 459 points are tied for the fifth-most in a single season in George Fox history, and her 74 steals are the seventh-best in a season.
In her first two seasons, Gordon was Second Team All-NWC as a freshman, and First Team All-NWC and Second Team All-West Region as a sophomore. On the George Fox career lists, she ranks third in steals (207), sixth in points (1,284), ninth in assists (239), and needs 22 rebounds to tie for 10th in that category.
