* Recent Games: Bruins Sweep First Two Home NWC Games to Stay Unbeaten

Jan. 13 - at George Fox 95, Willamette 34

Picking up their 14th win of the season, the Bruins clinched their 19th consecutive winning record as they cruised to a 95-34 win over the Willamette Bearcats Friday evening.  A Megan Arnoldy three-pointer at the 16:50 mark gave the Bruins the lead for good at 5-4 and sparked a 9-0 run, capped by two Jami Roos free throws, that made it 11-4 with 14:21 left in the half.  The Bruins were up 45-17 at the half, and with Roos scoring 10 points in the first seven minutes of the second half on two threes and a layup, they continued to expand the margin.  The largest margin of the game was 63 points at 95-32 following a drive by Katie Morse with 27 seconds remaining.  Roos led all scorers with 18 points, while Arnoldy finished with 13 and Keisha Gordon added 12.  The Bruins, who had 13 different players score, shot .508 (32-63) from the field, and held a decided edge in the free throw department, making 25-34 to 8-23 for the Bearcats.  Arnoldy's nine boards led the Bruins to a 50-35 advantage on the glass.  Arianna Mohsenian passed out five assists and Hayley Cusick made three steals as the Bruins forced 29 turnovers.

Jan. 14 - at George Fox 75, Puget Sound 59

Led by Hannah Munger's double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds, the Bruins maintained sole possession of first place in the Northwest Conference with a 75-59 win over the Puget Sound Loggers Saturday.  Both teams came out of the blocks hot, the Bruins making five of their first seven shots and the Loggers hitting their first four tries.  Down 16-15, Dacia Heckendorf's three at the 12:33 mark gave the Bruins the lead for good and ignited a 13-2 run, capped by a Heckendorf layup, that put the home team up 28-18 with 6:18 to go.  The Bruins led by nine, 35-26, at the intermission.  The Loggers scored the first basket of the second half, but the Bruins reeled off eight points in a row, Munger scoring on both ends of the run, to build a 43-28 lead with 15:12 to play, and the lead stayed in double figures the rest of the way.  Their largest lead was 25 at 73-48 with 2:10 left following back-to-back threes by Jami Roos.  Munger hit 10-13 from the field plus four free throws en route to her eighth double-double of the season and 33rd of her career.  She also had game highs of five assists and four blocked shots.  Roos added 21 points, including four three-pointers, and Hayley Cusick picked up four steals.  The Bruins finished with a .491 shooting percentage (26-53), including 7-16 (.438) from long range, and held a 45-29 rebound advantage.  The game was played before an estimated largest crowd of the season of some 1,300 on "Bruin Madness" night, a family fun and spirit-building event sponsored by the George Fox Alumni Association.

With a 15-0 record through games of Jan. 15, the George Fox Bruins remained No. 3 in both NCAA Division III national polls.  For the third straight week in the D3hoops.com poll, the Bruins got one first and 578 points.  The top three teams all held their places as defending national champion Amherst (14-0) was first with 21 firsts and 619 points, followed by Chicago (14-0) with three firsts and 599 points. Fellow Northwest Conference member Lewis & Clark (14-1) climbed from 10th to 8th with 432 points.  In the USA Today / ESPN / Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll, the Bruins again received 185 points, trailing Amherst (5 firsts and 197 points) and Chicago (3 firsts and 194).  Lewis & Clark climbed from 8th to 7th with 152 points.

* Bruins Secure 19th Straight Winning Record in Win over Willamette

With their 95-34 win over Willamette on Jan. 13, the Bruins improved to 14-0 and guaranteed themselves a 19th consecutive winning season.  The string began in 1993-94 in the first year under Sherri Murrell, now the women's basketball coach at Portland State. Following three winning seasons with Murrell, the Bruins added 14 more winning seasons under Scott Rueck, who left in the summer of 2010 for the women's basketball position at his alma mater, Oregon State. The 2010-11 Bruins finished 25-6, their 18th straight winning season, under first-year coach Michael Meek.  Including this year's 15-0 record, George Fox has gone 379-127 (.749) during that 18-years-plus span from 1993-2012.

* Bruins Stretch Home Streaks vs. NWC Opponents to 43 in a Row

With home wins over Willamette and Puget Sound on Jan. 13-14, the Bruins extended their home court winning streak against Northwest Conference opponents in all games, including post-season NWC and NCAA Division III Tournament games, of 43 in a row at the Wheeler Sports Center's Miller Gym. The last time the Bruins lost at home to a conference team was 51-48 to Puget Sound in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on March 3, 2007. The Bruins have also won 43 straight regular season-only games vs. the NWC in Newberg since a 55-51 setback to Linfield on Nov. 28, 2006.

NWC Poll: Bruins Favored to Win 6th Straight League Title

After winning or sharing each of the last five Northwest Conference championships, and with five starters returning, it is perhaps little wonder that the George Fox Bruins are favored to win their sixth straight NWC title as predicted in a pre-season poll of the league's nine coaches The Bruins picked up seven of nine first-place votes and tallied 70 of 72 possible points in the poll. Lewis & Clark, which shared last year's regular-season conference crown with George Fox, was second in the poll with 59 points and picked up the other two first-place votes.
