* Polls: Bruins Ranked No. 3 in D3hoops, WBCA Pre-Season Polls

Coming off a 25-6 record, their fifth straight Northwest Conference Championship, a third straight appearance in the NCAA Division III National Tournament ‘Elite 8’, and with 13 letter winners and five starters back, the George Fox Bruins were ranked No. 3 in both D-III pre-season polls.

In the D3hoops.com poll, George Fox received three votes for first place and 541 points in all.  Defending national champion Amherst College (32-1) was first with 13 firsts and 593 points, followed closely by the University of Chicago (25-4) with seven firsts and 590 points.  William Paterson College (26-4) got two firsts and 494 points for fourth.  Amherst has three starters back, while the other three have five starters back and two players each on the D3hoops First, Second, Third or Fourth pre-season All-America teams.

In the USA Today / ESPN / Women’s Basketball Coaches Association poll, the Bruins received 156 points.  Amherst was first with four votes for the top spot and 172 points, followed narrowly by Chicago with three firsts and 171 points.

The No. 3 rankings are the highest pre-season positions ever for the Bruins.  The 2009-10 team was ranked fourth before the season began by D3hoops and fifth by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association following a 32-0 record and the D-III national championship in 2008-09.

NWC Poll: Bruins Favored to Win 6th Straight League Title

After winning or sharing each of the last five Northwest Conference championships, and with five starters returning,  it is perhaps little wonder that the George Fox Bruins are favored to win their sixth straight NWC title as predicted in a pre-season poll of the league’s nine coaches  The Bruins picked up seven of nine first-place votes and tallied 70 of 72 possible points in the poll. Lewis & Clark, which shared last year’s regular-season conference crown with George Fox, was second in the poll with 59 points and picked up the other two first-place votes.
