NGCA ALL-AMERICAN SCHOLAR TEAM: Cameron Again Named to NGCA All-American Scholar Team

NEWBERG, Ore. - Sophomore Mandy Cameron of the George Fox University women's golf team has been named to the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Golf All-American Scholar Team as recently announced by the National Golf Coaches Association, the second year in a row she has received that honor.

Cameron, an engineering major from Redmond, Ore., has compiled a 3.94 grade point average through her first two years at George Fox.   In addition to being named to the NGCA 2008 All-American Scholar Team, she was named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine / CoSIDA Women's Academic All-District VIII College Division At-Large Team as voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America, becoming the first Bruin women's golfer in the three-year history of the program to make it.

On the links, Cameron was second on the team with an 87.37 strokes-per-round average during the 2008-09 season.  She finished among the top five individuals in four of the Bruins' 12 matches, including a second-place tie in the season-opening Willamette 5-Way on Sept. 15, and had 10 top-10 finishes.  She was named the Northwest Conference Women's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week for Mar. 23-29 when she finished 10th in a field of 33 at the University of California-Santa Cruz Spring Invitational, posting a two-day score of 185 on the toughest course the Bruins played on all year and leading George Fox to second place out of six teams.

Cameron's low one-day round was an 80 at the Willamette 5-Way and at the GFU Women's Spring Invitational I on Mar. 20.  Her best two-day score was a 164 at the GFU Women's Spring Invitational I on Mar. 20-21.  She was a key factor in the Bruins going 29-16 against other teams in 12 tournaments during the fall and spring seasons, with four first-place finishes and four seconds.  The Bruins placed fourth out of nine teams in the overall Northwest Conference standings.

A total of 410 women's collegiate golfers were named to the 2009 NGCA All-American Scholar Teams for the NCAA's Division I, II, and III levels. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Teams are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics, as athletes must have at least a 3.50 GPA and have competed in 50% of the team's regularly-scheduled competitive rounds at the Division I level and 66% of the team's rounds in Divisions II and III.

The National Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches.  The NGCA today includes nearly 500 coaches throughout the United States and is dedicated to educating, promoting, and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.  For more information, visit the NGCA web site at www.ngca.com.
