WGF: Naps Win at NWC Spring Classic Garners BAA, NWC Golfer of the Week Honors
NEWBERG, Ore. - With her fifth tournament win of the 2009-10 season in the Northwest Conference Spring Classic on Apr. 10-11, Brianna Nap has been named the Bruin Athletic Association Women’s Athlete of the Week as well as the NWC Women’s Golf Student-Athlete of the Week for Apr. 5-11.
Nap trailed first-round lead leader Emily Travis of Whitworth University by six strokes heading into Sunday’s final round, but rallied to take medalist honors with a score of 82-79=161, one stroke ahead of Travis’s 76-86=162. With Nap leading the way, the 10th-ranked Bruins stormed back from 10 strokes down to win the Spring Classic at the Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima, Wash., by seven shots over Whitworth, shooting 341-324=665 to 331-341=672 for the Pirates.
Nap, a junior from Deer Park, Wash., also has wins in the GFU Women’s Fall Invitational, the Pacific Fall Invitational, the Whitman Invitational, and the GFU Spring Invitational (shared with teammate Jill Westendorf). She also won BAA honors on Sept. 14-20 and 21-27, and the NWC award for Mar. 15-21. Her victory in the Spring Classic assures her a spot on the All-Conference Team, with the remainder to be determined at the NWC Championship on Apr. 24-25 at the Heron Lakes Golf Course in Portland, Ore.
