WGF: PACIFIC INVITATIONAL: Nap Paces Bruins to Day One Lead in Pacific Invitational

Day One Results

BANKS, Ore. - Paced by a first-round 80 and a two-stroke individual lead by Brianna Nap, the George Fox University Bruins took a six-stroke lead over Linfield College after the first day of play in the Pacific University Invitational women's golf tournament Saturday afternoon here at the Quail Valley Golf Course.

George Fox posted a four-player score of 342 over the par-72, 5,861-yard course, with Linfield coming in at 348.  The two Yamhill County rivals appear headed for a second-day showdown, as all other teams are well back in the field.  Host Pacific is third at 370, followed by Northwest Christian University at 380 and Willamette University at 404.

Nap, coming off a Bruin record-setting performance last Saturday in the GFU Women's Invitational, was two strokes ahead of Linfield's Brittany Johnston and Northwest Christian's Ashley King as the day ended.  Tied for fourth was Bruin teammate Mandy Cameron and Linfield's Brynn Hurdus, each at 85.

Also counting for the Bruins were Sarah Askin with an 88, tied for ninth, and Jill Westendorf with an 89, good for 11th.  Kelsey Morrison carded a 90 and stood 12th, while Whitney Clunes and Abby Mann, playing as individuals, shot 86 (sixth) and 87 (tied for seventh) respectively.

The tournament concludes Sunday, with tee time set for 12:30 p.m.
