DT Monterey Invitational Results

SEASIDE, Calif. - With Brianna Nap shooting a tournament-low round of 77, the George Fox University Bruins cut 10 strokes off their first-round team score but were unable to make up ground and finished second to the Academy of Art University as the DT Women's Monterey Invitational concluded Sunday here at the Black Horse Golf Course.

The Academy of Art from San Francisco posted a 330 for the second straight day on the par 72, 5,848-yard course and ended with a 330-330=660 four-player score.  George Fox came in second at 348-338=686, with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges third at 364-361=725.  Dominican University of California dropped out of the event at the last minute due to a player illness.

Nap carded a 38-39=77 to finish with an overall score of 87-77=164, two strokes behind medalist Crystal Faith Superal of AAU with an 80-82=162.  The Urban Knights from AAU had four of the top five individual finishes.  Brittany Isobe with an 85-86=171 was the top scorer for CMS's Athenas, tying for sixth.

Other counting scores for the Bruins on Sunday were Mandy Cameron with a 44-41=85, Jill Westendorf with a 40-46=86, and Kelsey Morrison with a 44-46=90.  Final scores had Westendorf at 85-86=171 (6th, T), Cameron at 90-85=175 (8th), Morrison at 88-90=178 (9th), Sarah Askin at 88-91=179 (10th, T), and Abby Mann at 88-98=186 (13th).

"I knew that catching the Academy of Art would be difficult, but I was very pleased with our team's effort," said George Fox coach MaryJo McCloskey.  "The Academy of Art is a D-II school with four outstanding international players. It was fun competing with them and Claremont, and I know our team learned a great deal.  We probably won't play a course as challenging this season, but I believe that this experience will help us to be ready for the Northwest Conference Fall Classic this weekend.  I truly appreciate Debra Phillips (who the tournament is named after) in helping make this event happen."

The Northwest Conference Fall Classic is set for Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 17-18, at the Heron Lakes Golf Course in north Portland, Ore., with Lewis & Clark College as this year's host.  Tee times are set for 11:00 a.m. Saturday and 10:00 a.m. Sunday.  The Fall Classic counts as one quarter of each team's score toward the final conference standings, with the NWC Spring Classic as another quarter and the NWC Championship as one half.
