WGF: Bruins Among National D-III Leaders with NWC Fall Classic Next

NEWBERG, Ore. - With the Northwest Conference Fall Classic coming up this weekend, the George Fox University Bruins have established themselves as one of the teams with a legitimate shot at the title, based upon some strong early-season play that has put them among the NCAA Division III national leaders in women's golf.

According to the Golfstat program which is used by the NCAA for intercollegiate golf statistics, the Bruins are 17th in Division III in scoring with a 333.67 average score per round, the highest they have ever been ranked, and 23rd in head-to-head competition vs. the division.  In Region 5, which includes all D-III teams in Oregon, Washington, California, and Texas, George Fox is second in scoring average and third in head-to-head standings.

Individually, the Bruins' Brianna Nap is fifth in the nation and first in the region with a 77.00 scoring average.  Nap has captured medalist honors three times this fall, leading the Bruins to victory in three tournaments: the season-opening GFU Women's Invitational, the Pacific Invitational, and the Whitman Invitational.  Other Bruins listed among the top 30 in the region are Mandy Cameron (tied for 14th with an 84.00 average) and Kelsey Morrison (22nd with an 85.33 average).

The Northwest Conference Fall Classic is set for Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 17-18, at the Heron Lakes Golf Course in north Portland, Ore., with Lewis & Clark College as this year's host.  Tee times are set for 11:00 a.m. Saturday and 10:00 a.m. Sunday on the Green Back course.  The Fall Classic counts as one quarter of each team's score toward the final conference standings, with the NWC Spring Classic as another quarter and the NWC Championship as one half.
