Bruins Add Willamette Invitational to Schedule to Bridge Gap Between NWC Events

NEWBERG, Ore. – Bridging a gap of three weeks between the Northwest Conference Spring Classic and the NWC Championship Tournament, the George Fox University Bruins have added the Willamette University Invitational at the Illahe Hills Country Club on Saturday-Sunday, Apr. 14-15, to their 2012 spring women’s golf schedule.

“We had been looking all along for something to go between the two conference events; we certainly didn’t want to be idle!” said George Fox coach MaryJo McCloskey in announcing the addition of the Willamette Invitational, which is set to tee off at 12:00 noon each day.

George Fox is coming off a 30-stroke victory over runner-up Whitman College in the NWC Spring Classic on Mar. 31-Apr. 1 at the Wildhorse Resort Golf Course in Mission, Ore.  The win gave the Bruins both the Fall and Spring Classic titles and 16 points in the conference standings as they take aim at a third straight NWC championship (the Bruins shared the 2010 title with Whitworth University and won the 2011 crown outright).

The NWC Championship Tournament is set for Apr. 21-22 at the Columbia Point Golf Course in Richland, Ore., and counts as one half of the total team score for determining the conference champion, along with the Fall and Spring Classics which count one quarter each.  The NWC champion earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championship at the Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Ind., on May 8-11.
