Bruins Finish Fall 7th in D-III National Rankings, 1st in Initial West Region Ratings

NEWBERG, Ore. - With the fall portion of the 2011-12 season officially over for all NCAA Division III women’s golf teams, the George Fox University Bruins remained in seventh place in the Golf World / National Golf Coaches Association rankings and earned the No. 1 spot in the first NCAA West Regional rankings of the year.

George Fox collected 356 points in the NGCA national poll, down from 382 in the previous poll, but there were only 19 ballots received this month as opposed to 22 in the one before.  The Bruins remain the highest-rated team from Region 5 (West Region), with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 12th, Mary Hardin-Baylor 13th, Whitman 18th, Texas-Tyler 19th, Redlands tied for 20th, and Southwestern (Texas) 22nd.  Methodist stayed No. 1 with 17 first-place votes and 473 points, while Washington-St. Louis was second with two firsts and 455 points.

In the NCAA regional ratings, the Bruins held the top spot, followed by Mary Hardin-Baylor, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Whitman, Texas-Tyler, and Redlands.  The regional rankings may be found on the NCAA web site at http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/golf-women/d3.

In the final Golfstats.com ratings of the fall from Nov. 15, the Bruins remained first in Region 5 (West) and moved up to eighth overall in the nation.

Statistically, the Bruins are sixth nationally in scoring average (319.80) and fifth in score vs. par (30.20), while ranking first in the region in both scoring average and score vs. par.  The Bruins’ adjusted scoring average of 79.51 is also first in the region and fifth in the nation.

Individually, Kelsey Morrison is first in the region in scoring average (77.30) and score vs. par (4.90), and fifth nationally in score vs. par and ninth in scoring average.  Megan McGrew is fourth in the region in score vs. par (6.90) and scoring average (79.30), while standing tied for 22nd nationally in score vs. par and 27th in scoring average.

In the region, Abby Mann is tied for 18th in score vs. par (9.50) and is 29th in average score (81.90).
