NEWBERG, Ore. -- - The George Fox lacrosse team hosted the undefeated Colorado College for a non-conference matchup on Sunday, losing the contest, 18-7.
The first half was highly contested as both teams struggled to take the lead. It was Tigers who struck first, going on a two-goal run in the opening five minutes.
George Fox came back with a goal of their own only two minutes later as Miranda Edwords managed to find the back of the net.
Another two goals by Colorado set the score at 4-1, but Edwords struck again with 17 minutes left in the half to cut the lead to just two.
The game continued to be a back-and- forth affair as a goal by the Pirates was matched by yet another goal by Edwords – the score was set at 5-3.
Edwords continued her offensive assault with another two goals with less than ten minutes left in the period, scoring a whopping five goals in the first half alone.
Lois Ray found her way into the scoring column as well with a beautiful goal with only three minutes remaining to cut the Tiger lead to just one.
The Bruins had a tougher time scoring in the second half as a slew of runs by the away team dampened what had been a close game.
Lois Ray tallied her second goal of the day and her fifth on the season with just over a minute before the end of the game.
Edwords was unstoppable today, scoring five goals in only eight shots. The effort set her at thirteen
goals in only three games on the season. Ray played a huge role as well, tallying two goals in only two shots. Mikaela Easterlin anchored the Bruin defense with a whopping 16 saves.
What It Means:
The Bruins remain undefeated in conference play and move to 2-1 on the season.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins travel to Pacific next Saturday for a conference game set for 3:00pm.
