A Winning Tradition
TACOMA, Wash. --- The George Fox women's lacrosse team continued the undefeated season in the Northwest Conference Saturday, as the Bruins thumped the Loggers of Puget Sound, 20-2.
The Bruins were eager to get back to NWC play after going 2-1 in California earlier in the week. Although all three California games were separated by one goal, Saturday's game was quite the opposite.
The Bruins kept the scoreboard operator busy, scoring 14 first half goals.
George Fox jumped out to an 8-0 lead 10 minutes into the game, and Jess Hanson recorded a hat trick after six minutes of play. The scoring was spread out for the most part in the first half, as six different Bruins got in on the action.
George Fox went into the half with a 14-1 lead.
Things settled down in the second half, as the Bruins scored four early goals to push their lead to 19-1. The Loggers scored their second goal of the game with nine minutes left, and the Bruins netted one last goal before time expired.
The win marks the sixth time in program history that the Bruins have scored 20 or more goals in a single game.
Hanson and Christine Doherty led the way for the Bruins, as the pair scored five goals apiece. Miranda Edwords netted three, as did Emma Fanger. Mikaela Easterlin played nearly 20 minutes with one save, while Alyssa Poffenroth tallied 40 minutes between the sticks.
What It Means:
The win pushes the Bruins to 3-0 in the NWC and 6-2 on the season.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins will play their final non-conference game Friday, April 7, at 1p.m. against Southwestern (Texas) at home.
