WSOC: Cardwell's Passing Garners BAA, NWC HM Weekly Awards

NEWBERG, Ore. - With a pair of assists in the Bruins' season-ending 3-2 overtime loss at Linfield, Kirsten Cardwell earned the Bruin Athletic Association Women's Athlete of the Week award and received honorable mention for Northwest Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for Nov. 2-8.

Cardwell's assists enabled the Bruins to battle back from a 2-0 halftime deficit against the Wildcats on Nov. 6.  Three minutes into the second half, Cardwell fed Esther Harder for a goal, and 43 seconds later, she passed to Jordan Haselnus for the game-tying score.  She boosted her assists total for the season to three and her points total to 17, second on the team to Jenny McKinsey's 19.

Cardwell, a First Team All-Conference performer last year, tied for 6th in the NWC in goals (7) and game-winning goals (3), 8th in points (17), and 9th in shots (44).  A junior from Springfield, Ore., she was the Northwest Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 7-13 and was honorable mention for the award twice this season.

The Athlete of the Week Award for both men and women is presented throughout the Bruin sports seasons by the Bruin Athletic Association, whose mission is to provide George Fox student-athletes with an outstanding athletic and academic experience and to strengthen the overall competitiveness of the Bruin athletics program.  For more information about the organization or to become a member, visit the Bruin Athletic Association website.
