Sat., Oct. 16, 12:00 pm - vs. Willamette University, Newberg, Ore. (NWC) 

The Bruins will play their 10th home game of the season, with two more still to come, when the Willamette Bearcats pay their first visit to the new Austin Sports Complex on Saturday at noon, the only game scheduled this weekend for George Fox.  The Bruins will look to end a four-game non-winning streak (three losses and a tie) and pick up their first win since a 2-1 victory at Lewis & Clark on Oct. 2.

Tickets:  Ticket prices for George Fox soccer matches at the Austin Sports Complex, which is located at the corner of Villa Rd. and Crestview Dr. a mile north of the main campus, are $6 for adults and $3 for non-GFU students and seniors 55 and over.  Children 6 and under who are not in school are free.  George Fox faculty, staff, and students are admitted free with valid GFU ID; the ID covers immediate family members for George Fox employees.

Willamette (5-7, NWC 4-4, 5th): The Bearcats from Salem, Ore., were picked 3rd in the NWC pre-season poll, the Bruins 8th ... The Bearcats are coming off a 2-0 win over Pacific Lutheran on Sunday ... Willamette has won the last two meetings, including a 2-1 win in Salem on Sept. 26 this year.  Melanie Gaither had the Bruins' goal in that game ... The Bruins' last win in the series was 1-0 in Newberg on  Sept. 27, 2009 ... Recent Results (0-2-1):

Sat., Oct. 9 - L 2-3 vs. Pacific Lutheran

All the goals were scored in the second half as the Bruins twice battled back to tie the game before losing on a penalty kick in the 72nd minutes after a rare foul call on Bruins' keeper Alyssa Montero.  Shannon Olson and Kirsten Cardwell each scored goals for the Bruins, the latter on a penalty kick and her team-leading third of the year.  Montero made 6 saves in goal. 

Sun., Oct. 10 - L 0-2 at Linfield

Emily Fellows set Linfield records for goals (17) and points (39) in a season as the Bruins fell to their Yamhill County rivals.  The Bruins were out-shot 23-6 and 13-5 in shots on goal.  Becka Doyle had 11 saves in goal and went over 100 for her career in keeping the Bruins in the game.

Wed., Oct. 13 - T 1-1 at Pacific

A Melanie Gaither goal in the second half enabled the Bruins to tie the Boxers 1-1, and the teams battled through two overtimes before the match ended in a draw.  The Bruins out-shot the Boxers 22-20, had a 10-8 advantage in shots on goal, and led in corner kicks 6-5.  Becka Doyle had four saves in the first half and Alyssa Montero made three saves in the second half and overtimes.

BRUIN BITS --- 

* Cardwell Receives Honorable Mention for NWC Offensive Honors 

By scoring her team-leading third goal of the season, George Fox forward Kirsten Cardwell received honorable mention for Northwest Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 4-10.

Cardwell connected on a penalty kick in the 68th minute to tie the game 2-2 against Pacific Lutheran on Oct 9, a game the Bruins eventually lost 3-2.  She led the team vs. PLU with three shots and two on goal.  She also had one shot on goal out of the Bruins' total of five in a 2-0 loss at Linfield on Oct. 10.  On the season, she ranks 4th in the NWC in game-winning goals (2), 8th in shots (27), and 9th in shots per game (2.25).  Cardwell, a senior from Springfield, Ore., ranks 6th in career goals (25) and points (60) and is tied for 12th in assists (10) at George Fox.

* Coach Andy Hetherington:

 Andy Hetherington (St. John's, U.K., '76) is 59-99-9 (.380) in his 9th season as the women's soccer coach at George Fox. He was 123-20-5 in 10 seasons as a high school coach in the Portland, Ore., area before taking the position at George Fox.  Eight of his teams made state tournaments, and his 1991 and 1992 Catlin Gabel men's teams won state championships.   Click here for the complete bio on Coach Hetherington.
