The Bruins go from one extreme to the other this weekend as they visit the Northwest Conference-leading Puget Sound Loggers on Saturday, then come home to host the last-place Lewis & Clark Pioneers Sunday at the Austin Sports Complex. Both games are set to start at 12:00 noon. The Bruins will try to play ‘spoiler’ against the Loggers, who are locked in a tight race with Linfield and Whitworth for the NWC title. The Lewis & Clark match will be part of a doubleheader, with the George Fox men hosting Pacific Lutheran at 2:30 p.m. following the women’s game.

Tickets: Ticket prices for George Fox soccer matches at the Austin Sports Complex, which is located at the corner of Villa Rd. and Crestview Dr. a mile north of the main campus, are $6 for adults and $3 for non-GFU students and seniors 55 and over. Children 6 and under who are not in school are free. George Fox faculty, staff, and students are admitted free with valid GFU ID; the ID covers immediate family members for George Fox employees.

The Pios ended an 11-game winless streak (one tie) with a 3-2 win over Pacific Lutheran on Sunday ... The Bruins have won the last four meetings with the Pios, including a 2-1 double-overtime win in Portland on Oct. 2 this year ... The Pios’ last win in the series was 2-0 in Portland on Sept. 19, 2008 ... Sat., Oct. 23 - L 0-1 at Whitworth
Cory Druffel scored three minutes into the game and that was just enough for the Pirates to edge the visiting Bruins. Whitworth out-shot the Bruins 23-4, but Alyssa Montero made seven saves to keep the Bruins close. Nicole Akiu had the Bruins’ only shot on goal.
Sun., Oct. 24 - W 2-0 at Whitman
Esther Harder broke a scoreless tie 90 seconds into the second half with her first goal of the season,and Nicole Akiu added her first four minutes later as the Bruins earned a split on their eastern Washington trip with a win over the Missionaries. Whitman had an 18-12 advantage in shots, but Alyssa Montero set a career high with 12 saves to earn her first shutout of the season.

Nicole Akiu scored a critical insurance goal in the Bruins’ 2-0 win at Whitman and Alyssa Montero had 19 saves in two games, earning the pair honorable mention for Northwest Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week respectively for Oct. 12-18.
Akiu, a senior from Honolulu, Hawai’i, was the Bruins’ biggest offensive threat of the week. In a 1-0 loss at Whitworth on Oct. 23, she had half of the Bruins’ four shots and the only one on goal. In the win at Whitman on Oct. 24, she tied Melanie Gaither for the team lead with three shots apiece, and notched her first goal of the season four-and-a-half minutes into the second half to boost the George Fox lead to a more comfortable 2-0.
Montero had seven saves to keep the Bruins close in a 1-0 loss at Whitworth on Oct. 23, then set a career high with 12 saves and earned her first career shutout in a 2-0 win at Whitman on Oct. 24. In Northwest Conference stats, the freshman from Hermosa Beach, Calif.,ranks 3rd in save pct. (.816), 4th in saves (71) and saves per game (5.46), 6th in goals against avg. (1.44), and 8th in shutouts (1, T). She was the Bruin Athletic Association Women’s Athlete of the Week and the NWC Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for Aug. 30-Sept. 5.

Andy Hetherington (St. John's, U.K., '76) is 60-101-9 (.379) in his 9th season as the women's soccer coach at George Fox. He was 123-20-5 in 10 seasons as a high school coach in the Portland, Ore., area before taking the position at George Fox.
