GEORGE FOX 1, EVERGREEN STATE 1: Bruins Score First but Geoducks Forge Late Tie

NEWBERG, Ore. - A first-half goal by Molly Norton gave the George Fox University Bruins a lead they held for most of the game, but the Evergreen State College Geoducks scored with less than four minutes left in regulation, resulting in an eventual 1-1 double-overtime tie in a non-conference women’s soccer match Saturday afternoon here at the Austin Sports Complex.

The Bruins got on the board with their first goal of the young season when Amanda Garoutte threaded a through ball to Norton, who then dribbled  around Evergreen goalkeeper Kaitlin MacKensie to score her second career goal at the 37:06 mark.

The George Fox defense made that goal stand up for over 86 minutes, limiting the Geoducks to only four shots total and two on goal in that span.  The visitors were able to sneak a goal in with 3:43 left in regulation when Rayna Murphy got free and beat Bruin keeper Ally Swanson to the bottom left corner of the net for her first score of the season.

George Fox outshot Evergreen 7-1 in the two overtimes, taking four shots in the last two-and-a-half minutes of the first extra period.  Two of those were blocked and two went wide left, including one by Esther Harder, who led the Bruins with four shot attempts.  MacKensie finished with five saves while facing 15 Bruin shots, six on goal.  Swanson had a pair of saves as the Geoducks wound up with six shots in all and three on goal.

George Fox held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks and committed 19 fouls to 10 for Evergreen.
