The George Fox women's soccer team traveled south to take on California-Santa Cruz on Friday with both teams hoping to notch their first win of the 2016 season. Despite an early lead, the Bruins fell 2-1 in the late minutes of the game.

The Bruins came out strong, looking to attack early. Sophomore forward Savannah Moisan sent a shot wide in the 7th minute, then was able to net a goal in 8th minute after a run on goal set up a short three yard shot. After two early chances for the Bruins, they were unable to find many opportunities in the remainder of the half. Junior Ashley Behrens had a shot stopped in the 44th minute, junior Emma Weme missed wide just before halftime, and the Bruins took a 1-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, UC Santa Cruz came out firing, taking six shots in the first eight minutes of the half. Despite the attack, the Bruins were able to maintain their lead thanks to some key saves by goalie Morgan Bars. After numerous substitutions by both sides, it was UC Santa Cruz who found a spark and scored the equalizer in the 69th minute, evening the score at 1-1. The two teams continued to battle into the final minutes of the match, but once again it was UC Santa Cruz that found the back of the net in the 86th minute to take a 2-1 lead.

Sophomore Caitlyn Connor had a look to tie the match in the 89th minute, but her shot missed wide.
