WTEN: Beaumont Named BAA Athlete of the Week, HM for Conference Honors
NEWBERG, Ore. – Winning three of her four matches during the week, women’s tennis player Molly Beaumont has been named the Bruin Athletic Association Women’s Athlete of the Week for Mar. 29-Apr. 4, and also received honorable mention for Northwest Conference Women’s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week.
In the Bruins’ 5-2 loss (two matches were unfinished) to Pacific Lutheran on Apr. 2, Beaumont defeated the Lutes’ Cora Wigen 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) while playing at No. 2 singles, then teamed with Mollee Robinson to beat Wigen and Ashley Coats 9-8 (8-6) at No. 1 doubles. In a 7-2 setback to Puget Sound on Apr. 3, she knocked off the Loggers’ Samantha Taylor 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. She and Robinson fell 8-2 to the UPS doubles tandem of Taylor and Madison Holtz at No. 1 doubles for her only loss of the week.
Beaumont, a freshman from Bellingham, Wash., has been a bright spot in a difficult season for the young Bruins, posting a 6-9 record in singles (3-8 at No. 1, 3-1 at No. 2), and a 5-10 record in doubles, all at No. 1. She has the most wins of any player on the team, and is the first Bruin tennis player to win the BAA weekly award this year.
The Bruins, who are 0-15 on the season and 0-14 in conference
play, play at Linfield College Thursday at 3:30 p.m. before
concluding their season Sunday with a 3:00 p.m. match at Pacific
University.
