WTEN: ALL-NWC - Beaumont Caps Fine Freshman Season with Second Team Honors

2010 All-NWC Women's Tennis Team

NEWBERG, Ore. - Despite a relative lack of team success, George Fox University’s Molly Beaumont made enough of an impression on Bruins’ opponents in her freshman year that she has been named to the 2010 All-Northwest Conference Women’s Tennis Second Team as voted on by the league’s nine coaches.

Beaumont, who hails from Bellingham, Wash., and Bellingham High School, broke in with an overall singles record of 6-11.   She was 3-10 at No. 1 and 3-1 at No. 2, and posted a 6-10 mark against conference opposition.  In doubles, she teamed with Mollee Robison at the No. 1 position all year long, and the pair went 6-11 overall and 5-11 vs. the conference.

Beaumont is the first Bruin to earn All-Conference honors since Lisa Trefts garnered First Team status in three consecutive season from 2002-04.

The Bruins spent most of the 2010 season with only five players on the roster before adding a sixth midway through the season, which contributed to a 0-17 season and a ninth-place finish in the conference at 0-16.  The team had no seniors, however, so with another year’s experience for the returning players, the anticipated return of Corinne Borrelli, who spent a year studying overseas, and some new recruits, the Bruins’ fortunes should be on the rise next season.

Natalia Agarycheva of Willamette University was named the 2009 NWC Player of the Year, Rachel Burns of league champion Whitworth University was the Sportsman of the Year, and John Hein of Whitman College was the Coach of the Year.
