Inn Named NWC Player of the Week; Bruins to Host Top Two in NWC This Weekend
NEWBERG, Ore. - George Fox University freshman Shaina Inn of Honolulu, Hawai’i has been named the Northwest Conference Women’s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week for matches during the week of March 14-20 after posting a 6-2 record in one home match and three during the Bruins’ spring break trip to Orlando, Fla.
In a 7-3 loss to Hardin-Simmons on March 14, Inn picked up the Bruins’ only two wins with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles, then teamed with Alyssa Emoto for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles. In their first match in Orlando, a 7-2 win over Simpson (Iowa), she won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and 8-3 at No. 2 doubles with Emoto. Her only losses came on March 19 against 26th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater, who won 8-1, as she fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and 8-3 at No. 2 doubles with Emoto. However, she bounced back in a 9-0 Bruins’ win over Hamline, winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and 8-6 with Emoto at No. 2 doubles.
NEXT: George Fox (4-8, NWC 1-5) faces perhaps its most difficult weekend of the season as the Bruins host the Whitworth Pirates (10-2, NWC 6-0) Friday at 4:00 p.m. and the Linfield Wildcats (8-4, NWC 6-1) Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The Pirates lead the conference and are ranked No. 8 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division III West Region rankings, while the Wildcats are second in the NWC and No. 9 in the West Region ... The Linfield match was originally scheduled as a road trip for the Bruins, but the teams swapped home-and-home dates when the GFU campus courts were too wet to play back on Feb. 26.
