ALL-NWC: Beaumont Named All-Conference Second Team for Second Year in a Row

All-Northwest Conference Women's Tennis

NEWBERG, Ore. - Making it two all-league honors in as many college seasons, sophomore Molly Beaumont of George Fox University has been selected to the 2010-11 All-Northwest Conference Women’s Tennis Second Team as voted on recently by the conference’s nine coaches.

As the Bruins’ No. 1 tennis player two years in a row, Beaumont had the toughest draw in every match and compiled a 4-13 record in singles this season.  In doubles, she teamed with Cara Griffith at No. 1 in most matches and went 4-13 there also.

On a young team with no seniors and three freshmen in the lineup, her experience and effort against the NWC’s best helped the Bruins improve to 4-14 overall in 2010-11 after going winless the year before.  The Bruins finished eighth in the conference at 1-11.

Beaumont, who hails from Bellingham, Wash., broke in last year with 6-11 records in both singles and doubles.  She is now 10-23 in each category after two seasons.  She is the first Bruin to garner women’s tennis All-Conference honors since Lisa Trefts earned First Team status in three consecutive seasons from 2002-04.

Rachel Burns of regular season champion Whitworth University was named the Player of the Year, Elise Otto of Whitman College was the Sportswoman of the Year, and Gundars Tilmanis of Lewis & Clark College was voted the Coach of the Year.
