SPRING BREAK TRIP: Bruins Find Warmth and Wins over Bluejays and Pipers in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. - In contrast to the wet, chilly, snowy weather in the Pacific Northwest, the George Fox University women’s tennis team found sunny skies, 85 degrees, and a pair of wins over the Elmhurst University Bluejays and the Hamline College Pipers to start their Orlando Spring Break trip Thursday here at the Lake Cane Tennis Center.

George Fox 8, Elmhurst 1

In a match in which the singles were played first, George Fox captured all six while losing only one set.  The Bruins got wins by Molly Beaumont over Stephanie Ruff 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1; Alyssa Emoto over Nicole Darga 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 at No. 2; Shaina Inn over Jordyn Hoover 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3; Cara Griffith over Kayla Mangiapane 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) at No. 4; Chantelle Hadeed over Emily Tarlini 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5; and Marissa Chau over Ragan Wilson 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6.

The Bruins picked up doubles wins as Beaumont and Inn downed Ruff and Hoover 8-5 at No. 1, and Emoto and Griffith topped Mangiapane and Jennifer Guenther 8-2 at No. 2.  The Bleujays prevented the sweep by prevailing at No. 3 doubles 8-6, Darga and Tarlini over Alissandra Wittrig and Bethany Nguyen.

George Fox 7, Hamline 2

The Bruins got off to a rough start against the Pipers, dropping the first two singles matches before bouncing back to take the rest of the singles and all of the doubles.  Hamline’s wins came as Anna Yarbrough rallied past Beaumont 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 1-0 (10-4) at No. 1, and Nicole Krier conquered Emoto 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2.

After Inn defeated Carissa Wallerich 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3, the Bruins changed up the singles from their earlier match.  At No. 4, Hadeed downed Katie Tarnowski 6-0, 6-2; Wittrig stopped Angie Seubert 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5; and Nguyen knocked off Elizabeth Allen 6-3, 6-1.

The doubles all went to George Fox, Beaumont and Inn over Krier and Wallerich 8-4 at No. 1, Emoto and Griffith over Yarbrough and Tarnowski 8-5 at No. 2, and Chau and Wittrig over Allen and Leeanne Manthe 8-5 at No. 3.
