WHITTIER 9, GEORGE FOX 0: Bruins’ 3-Match Winning Streak Punctured by Poets

ORLANDO, Fla. - With a 9-0 loss to the Whittier College Poets on their Orlando Spring Break trip Sunday here at Sanlando Park, the George Fox University Bruins saw their modest three-game winning streak, which equaled the longest for the team since women’s tennis was reinstituted in 1996, come to an abrupt halt.

In a tough No. 1 doubles match, the Poets’ Liliana Serylo and Chloe Dredge edged the Bruins’ Molly Beaumont and Shaina Inn 8-5.  At No. 2, Adrienne Hamada and Rachel Sugiyama knocked off Alyssa Emoto and Cara Griffith 8-3, and Kady Oliker and Benay Weintraub blanked Marissa Chau and Bethany Nguyen 8-0 at No. 3.

The Bruins managed to win one set in the singles, at No. 3 where Weintraub had to go to a tiebreaker to defeat Inn 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7).  The Poets swept the rest of the singles as Serylo swatted Beaumont 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1; Dredge dodged Emoto 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2; Sugiyama nudged Griffith 6-2, 7-6 (7-0) at No. 4; Lauren Gelgur handed Chantelle Hadeed a 6-3, 6-1 setback at No. 5; and Rachel Aelion-Moss won over Wittrig 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6.
