ORLANDO, Fla. --- The George Fox women's tennis team kicked off its spring break trip Wednesday, as the Bruins split their two matches against New Paltz and Hope College.
The Bruins took on New Paltz in the first match of the day, and the Bruins wasted no time as they took down No. 1 and 2 doubles. Sarah Tuemmler and Andrea Motely teamed up at No. 1 doubles and recorded a dominant finish with an 8-1 win over Brittany Grandville and Carol Tyson. Kristen Mock and Catrina Kwong won at No. 2 doubles with a score of 8-3 over Olivia Ammirati and Emi Lewis.
The Bruins went into singles with a 2-1 advantage, and Tuemmler kept the Bruins rolling with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Ammirati at the No. 1 spot. New Paltz was able to secure wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, but the Bruins sealed the deal with wins at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles. Mock had an amazing match at No. 6 singles, as she came away with a 6-0, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9) finish.
In the nightcap, the Bruins took on the No. 23-ranked Hope College. Hope lived up to its Top 25 ranking, as the opposing team beat the Bruins, 9-0.
"The girls fought hard tonight and gave it all they had," said head coach Rick Cruz. "In conditions with heavy wind it was good to see the girls react with grit. We are excited to get back at it tomorrow."
