ORLANDO, Fla. --- The George Fox women's tennis team closed out their east coast trip with a bang Tuesday, as the Bruins took down Huntingdon College 8-1 in the final match of the spring break trip.
The Bruins took full advantage of their final day in Florida, as the squad opened up with two quick wins in doubles. Sarah Tuemmler teamed up with Lydia Pia at No. 3 doubles, and the two wasted no time with an 8-2 win over Kacey Stephens and Clayton Waring. Ellen Pearson and Taylor Barnes had a back and forth match at No. 2 doubles, but came away with an 8-6 win over Josie Waddell and Heather Tabor. Catrina Kwong and Kristen Mock had the closest match in doubles, as the pair had to play a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles, falling to Dusty Catala and Mariah Bastos, 9-8 (10-8).
For the second straight match, the Bruins were perfect in singles. Tuemmler was quick at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win, while Mock had a similar match at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Taylor Barnes had a well fought match at No. 3 singles, but came away with a 6-4, 6-2 win. Ilsa Teppo was also successful at the No. 6 spot with a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
What It Means:
The Bruins close out their east coast trip with a 3-2 record. They are now 8-7 on the season.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins will get back to their Northwest Conference schedule Saturday, April 1, with a home match against Pacific.
