WALLA WALLA, Wash. --- The George Fox women's tennis team kicked off its season Sept. 22-25 at the 2017 ITA Regional Championships, and the Bruins came away from the event with a lot of positives.

In the singles main draw, both Andrea Motley, Catrina Kwong and Emily Brink won their first matchup. Motley beat Johanna Wilson of Pacific (Ore.), 6-1, 6-2, while Kwong out-matched Nicki Bouche of Puget Sound, 6-0, 6-4.

Kwong wasn't out of it yet, as the senior right-hander fought her way back in the consolation bracket. She won a nail biter in the opening match with a 9-8 (7-2) victory over Avery Liening of Whitworth. She then went on to take down Jenny Adams of Whitworth, 8-5, and Sarah Sweet of Linfield 8-5.

Kwong completed her undefeated run with a win over Kelsey Bartlett in the final match of her bracket in the consolation bracket.

"As a team, and especially for the young players, this was a great learning experience," said head coach Rick Cruz. "It showed the team what we need to improve on if we want to put ourselves in the mix for a top four spot in the conference again."
