BAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Defensive Whiz Reeves Wins First Weekly Athletic Honor

NEWBERG, Ore. - Picking up where she left off last year as one of the best defensive players in George Fox volleyball history, libero Patti Reeves totaled 117 digs in five matches to earn the first Bruin Athletic Association Women’s Athlete of the Week award for Aug. 29-Sept. 4 and honorable mention for the Northwest Conference Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week.

Reeves, a senior from Everett, Wash., was instrumental in the Bruins’ 4-1 week that included four straight wins in the Northwest Invitational Tournament in Portland, Ore.  In the season opener, a 3-2 home loss to Simpson, she had 31 digs and 3 assists.  In a 3-0 win over Mayville State in the tournament opener, she had 16 digs and three assists.  In a 3-1 win over tournament host Lewis & Clark, she tallied 22 digs and a career-high 8 assists.  She followed that with 14 digs and 2 assists in a 3-0 win over Edgewood, and 34 digs and 6 assists in a 3-1 triumph over Embry-Riddle. 

For the week, in five matches and 19 sets, Reeves posted 117 digs (6.16 per set), 22 assists, 5 service aces, 5 kills, and a .103 hitting percentage.  Last year, she had 500 digs on the season, the second-highest single-season total ever for a Bruin, and set a school record with 5.88 digs per set, earning honorable mention All-Conference status.
