Kerr Named BAA Athlete of the Week for Oct. 3-9; Weekend Series with the Whits
NEWBERG, Ore. - After posting back-to-back matches with double-figure kills, George Fox volleyball right-side hitter Stephanie Kerr has been named the Bruin Athletic Association Women’s Athlete of the Week for Oct. 3-9, as well as receiving honorable mention for the Northwest Conference Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week.
Kerr, a senior from Brookings, Ore., Everett, Wash., hammered 13 kills with only two errors in 23 attacks for a blistering .478 hitting percentage as the Bruins dropped three close sets in a 3-0 loss at 19th-ranked Puget Sound on Oct. 7. She followed that with 15 kills and seven errors in 44 attempts for a .182 mark, along with three block assists, in a 3-2 home loss to Linfield on Oct. 8. For the week, she totaled 28 kills (3.50 per set) and nine errors in 67 attempts for a .284 hitting percentage, along with three block assists. On the season, she ranks fourth in the conference in kills per set (2.91) and 10th in hitting percentage (.216).
Kerr is the second George Fox volleyball player to receive the BAA weekly award this year. Libero Patti Reeves, who ranks fourth in the NWC in digs per set (5.31) was honored for the week of Aug. 29-Sept. 4.
The George Fox Athlete of the Week Award for both men and women is presented throughout the Bruin sports seasons by the Bruin Athletic Association, whose mission is to provide George Fox student-athletes with an outstanding athletic and academic experience and to strengthen the overall competitiveness of the Bruin athletics program. NEXT: The Bruins face opponents at the opposite ends of the Northwest Conference standings when the eastern Washington teams come to town this weekend. On Friday, they will host the league-leading Whitworth University Pirates (12-5, NWC 7-1) at 7:00 p.m., followed on Saturday by the Whitman College Missionaries (1-13, NWC 0-8), who are in ninth place, in a 5:00 p.m. match. The game Saturday is two hours earlier than normal to allow for Whitman’s travel time back to Walla Walla ... The Bruins dropped a 3-1 decision at Whitworth on Sept. 16 but won at Whitman 3-0 on Sept. 17 in their first meetings this fall ... Whitworth is the defending conference champion ...
