Burk Wins BAA Award, HM for NWC Honors; Final Games Coming Up for Two Seniors
NEWBERG, Ore. - Two fine matches at the net while leading the George Fox Bruins to a pair of road wins have earned middle blocker Tiffany Burk the Bruin Athletic Association Women’s Athlete of the Week and honorable mention for the Northwest Conference Women’s Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 24-30.
Burk, a freshman from Baker City, Ore., played a major role in the Bruins’ 3-1 win at Pacific on Oct. 26 and 3-1 win at Willamette on Oct. 28. At Pacific, she hit a sizzling .438 with seven kills and no errors in 16 attempts while recording two solo blocks and six block assists out of the team total of 12 blocks. At Willamette, she hammered six kills with three errors in 15 tries, a .200 percentage, with seven block assists in the team’s 11 blocks. For the week, she collected 13 kills and three errors in 31 attempts for a .323 hitting percentage, and had two solo blocks and 13 block assists in eight sets, an average of 1.88 blocks per set.
On the season, Burk leads the Bruins in hitting percentage (.216), posting 116 kills and 49 errors in 310 attempts, and in solo blocks (20), block assists (71), total blocks (91), and blocks per set (1.06). In NWC statistics, she is the league leader in solo blocks and ranks third in blocks per set. She is the third volleyball player to earn the BAA award this year, joining senior libero Patti Reeves (Aug. 29-Sept. 4) and senior outside hitter Stephanie Kerr (Oct. 3-9).
The George Fox Athlete of the Week Award for both men and women is presented throughout the Bruin sports seasons by the Bruin Athletic Association, whose mission is to provide George Fox student-athletes with an outstanding athletic and academic experience and to strengthen the overall competitiveness of the Bruin athletics program.
