Record-Setting Reeves Wins BAA Award, Honorable Mention for NWC Weekly Honor
NEWBERG, Ore. - With 52 digs in George Fox’s two season-ending matches, libero Patti Reeves has been named the Bruin Athletic Association Women’s Athlete of the Week for the second time this fall for the week of Oct. 31-Nov. 6, and also received honorable mention for the Northwest Conference Women’s Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week.
Reeves, a senior from Everett, Wash., helped the Bruins to a 3-1 upset of Puget Sound on Nov. 4 with a career-high nine assists, one service ace, and 12 digs. She followed that with seven assists, two aces, and 40 digs in a 3-2 loss at Linfield on Nov. 5. Her digs total at Linfield was the second-highest in her career, trailing only the 44 digs she had in a 3-1 win over Whittier on Sept. 11, 2010, in the Cal-Lu-fornia Invitational in Thousand Oaks, Calif. For the week, in nine sets, she had 16 assists (1.78 aps), three aces, and 52 digs (5.78 dps).
With 1,002 digs in 49 matches and 183 sets in her two years at George Fox after transferring from Bellevue College in Washington, Reeves averaged 5.48 digs per set, establishing a new Bruin all-time record. Last year, she set a new George Fox record for digs per set in a season (5.88). In current Northwest Conference statistics, she ranks third in total digs (502, the second-highest single-season total in Bruin history) and fifth in digs per set (5.12).
Reeves also earned the BAA award for the first week of the season (Aug. 29-Sept. 4). Other Bruin volleyball players to win the honor this fall have been senior right-side hitter Stephanie Kerr and freshman middle blocker Tiffany Burk.
The George Fox Athlete of the Week Award for both men and women is presented throughout the Bruin sports seasons by the Bruin Athletic Association, whose mission is to provide George Fox student-athletes with an outstanding athletic and academic experience and to strengthen the overall competitiveness of the Bruin athletics program.
