WHAT’S BRUIN: Capron Bruin Athlete of the Week; No. 10 Puget Sound Next for Bruins
NEWBERG, Ore. – A solid week in which she led the team with a .347 hitting percentage has earned Lucy Capron the George Fox University Bruin Women’s Athlete of the Week award, as well as honorable mention for the Northwest Conference Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week, for games of Sept. 10-16.
In a 3-1 home win over Lewis & Clark on Sept. 12, Capron nailed 16 kills with only two errors in 37 attempts, a .378 percentage, in the Bruins’ conference opener. She also made 18 digs, had two block assists, served two aces, and passed for one assist. In a 3-2 los at Pacific on Sept. 14, she notched 13 kills with two errors in 35 attemtps, a .314 mar, made 12 digs, and served seven aces, the most in one match by a Bruin in nine years. For the week, she hit 29 kills (3.22 kills per set) with four errors in 72 attacks, made 30 digs (3.33 dps), 9 aces (1.0 saps), two block assists, and one setting assist.
Capron, a freshman outside hitter from Bow, Wash., leads the conference in aces per set (0.58) while ranking 17th in kills (2.21) and 19th in digs (3.00).
The George Fox University Bruin Athlete of the Week Award for both men and women is presented throughout the sports seasons to recognize and honor outstanding athletic achievements and records by Bruin student-athletes.

NEXT: George Fox (3-5, NWC 1-1, 5th) hosts the University of Puget Sound Loggers (7-2, NWC 2-0, 1st T) and the Linfield College Wildcats (7-2, NWC 2-0, 1st T) this weekend in the first two of five straight home matches. The Bruins play UPS Friday, Sept. 21, and Linfield Saturday, Sept. 22, both at 7:00 p.m.

Puget Sound is ranked No. 10 in the latest NCAA Division III national poll by the American Volleyball Coaches Association ... The Loggers are led by OH Jackie Harvey, the NWC leader in kills (3.88), and S Jenni Brehove, the league leader in assists (10.58). DS Christina Chunn is second in the NWC in digs (5.58), while the Loggers’ top blocker is MB Nicolette Reynaud, who is fifth in the league (0.88) ... UPS opened conference play with home wins over Whitworth and Whitman.
Linfield, which hosts 19th-ranked Pacific Lutheran University Friday before meeting the Bruins, has won its last four, including conference wins over Willamette University and Lewis & Clark College ... The Wildcats’ top hitter is OH Kailana Ritte-Camara (2.60 kps), while S Audrey Frazier directs the offense (9.23 aps). DS Courtney Wanamaker averages 4.15 digs and MB Victoria Thompson has a 0.87 blocks per set average.
STATS: As a team, George Fox ranks 1st in the NWC in service aces per set (1.94), 3rd in blocks (1.89), 4th in hitting pct. (.138), 6th in kills (10.06), digs (16.18), 7th in assists (9.12) ...
