WXC: CONCORDIA/PUMA CLASSIC - Bruins Come In 8th in 5K Race at Concordia

PORTLAND, Ore. - Freshman Mary Strutz posted the best time in a race for George Fox University for the first time this season as the Bruins finished eighth among teams with scores in the Concordia University/PUMA Classic, a women's 5,000-meter race held Saturday afternoon here at Fernhill Park.
The Bruins collected 243 points with five runners. The University of Victoria edged Simon Fraser University 40-42 to win the event. The University of British Columbia was third with 89 points, followed by host Concordia with 112, Everett Community College with 122, Xavier University of Ohio with 152, Southern Oregon University with 163, and George Fox.
Strutz, an academic sophomore running cross country for the first time in her life after being persuaded by teammate and older sister Bethany, ran a time of 21:47, placing 70th overall and 46th for team scoring. Also counting for the Bruins were Jeannette Edle with a 21:47 (71st/47th), Bethany Strutz with a 22:06 (73rd/48th), Monica Hartzell with a 23:46 (81st/50th), and Emily Batsdorf with a 25:20 (83rd/52nd).
The individual champion was Jodi Souter of the University of Saskatchewan, who edged teammate Caitlin Warkentein 17:33 to 17:54.
After taking next weekend off, the Bruins will return to the races on Saturday, Oct. 31, in the Northwest Conference Championships at McIver State Park near Estacada, Ore.
