Dreibelbis’ Strong Race at NWC Championships Earns Him BAA Weekly Honors
NEWBERG, Ore. – A solid race in the Northwest Conference Men’s Cross Country Championships that landed him just two spots away from All-Conference honors has earned George Fox’s Kyle Dreibelbis the Bruin Athletic Association Men’s Athlete of the Week award for Oct. 24-30, his first time to be so honored.
Dreibelbis, a sophomore from McMinnville, Ore., clocked in with a 26:09.75, a personal best, in the 8K NWC men’s race at the Willamette Mission State Park near Brooks, Ore., on Saturday, Oct. 29. He finished 16th overall and for team scoring, the best showing by a Bruin runner, and the top 14 finishers receive All-NWC First or Second Team honors. It was his second time this season to finish as the Bruins’ best in a race, having also led the pack in the Boxer Rebellion hosted by Pacific University on Oct. 15. Despite his efforts, the Bruins wound up ninth out of nine teams in the NWC Championships.
Dreibelbis is the second men’s cross country runner to earn the BAA award this fall. Joseph Pia also received the honor when he won the 5K race at the Pacific Dual Meet / Bear Fete Invitational at Champoeg State Heritage Area on Oct. 1.
The George Fox Athlete of the Week Award for both men and women is presented throughout the Bruin sports seasons by the Bruin Athletic Association, whose mission is to provide George Fox student-athletes with an outstanding athletic and academic experience and to strengthen the overall competitiveness of the Bruin athletics program.
