All-Region Status Earns Hochstetler BAA Athlete of the Week Award for Second Time
NEWBERG, Ore. - By earning All-Region honors in the NCAA Division III Women’s Cross Country West Regional Championship on Nov. 12 in Claremont, Calif., George Fox’s Courtney Hochstetler has been named the Bruin Athletic Association Women’s Athlete of the Week for Nov. 7-13, the second time this fall she has been so honored.
Hochstetler, a freshman from Salem, Ore., became the first Bruin women’s runner to earn All-Region honors in four years (the last was Rachel Giffey-Brohaugh, who finished 22nd in the 2007 regional). She ran the 6,000 meter course at the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in 22:55.4, a new personal record, to finish 33rd out of 134 racers (the top 35 are named all-region). George Fox earned 373 points to finish 14th out of 20 teams in the regional.
Hochstetler also won BAA honors and received honorable mention for Northwest Conference Women’s Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 10-16 when ran a 23:36.2 to finish third overall and for team scoring in the Boxer Rebellion at the Sunny Grove Golf Course in Forest Grove, Ore., on Oct. 15. She is one of two cross country runners to earn the BAA women’s athlete award this fall, the other being Kate Freiheit for the week of Sept. 26-Oct. 2 for her victory in the Pacific Dual Meet /Bear Fete Invitational at Champoeg State Heritage Area in St. Paul, Ore., on Oct. 1.
The George Fox Athlete of the Week Award for both men and women is presented throughout the Bruin sports seasons by the Bruin Athletic Association, whose mission is to provide George Fox student-athletes with an outstanding athletic and academic experience and to strengthen the overall competitiveness of the Bruin athletics program.
