GEORGE FOX INVITATIONAL: College of Idaho Dominates Both Races in Bruin Meet
PORTLAND, Ore. – Sporting 29 runners in all, the College of Idaho won the men’s 8K race by 27 points over the Oregon Institute of Technolgoy and the women’s 5K race by 15 points over Carroll College (Mont.) in the George Fox University Invitational cross country meet on a cool, occasionally-drizzly Saturday morning here at Fernhill Park.
Men
The College of Idaho’s win in the men’s race came as the Coyotes captured the first and fifth-through-eighth spots for 27 team points. Runner-up Oregon Tech collected 54 points, followed by Lane Community College with 64, Carroll with 99, Treasure Valley Community College with 132, and host George Fox with 140.
The top individual in the men’s event was Greg Montogmery of the C of I with a time of 25:00.2, well ahead of the second-place 25:19.4 turned in by Elias Gedyon of Lane CC.
Joseph Pia once again led the host Bruins with a time of 26:26.3, as he finished 13th overall and 11th for team scoring. Also counting for George Fox were Kody Tarbell with a 27:23.1 (33rd/27th), Connor Niemi with a 27:38.2 (39th/32nd), Bryant Quinn with a 27:52.6 (41st/34th), and Micah Tate with a 28:00.5 (43rd/36th).
Completing the field for the Bruins were Aaron Molstad with a 28:09.9 (44th), Mike Calavan with a 28:52.2 (50th), Austin Morrell with a 29:42.0 (55th), and Alex Lull with a 29:46.9 (56th). There were 67 total runners in the race.
Women
While the women’s race was tighter at the top than the men’s, the College of Idaho still won handily with 25 points to 40 for Carroll, placing first, third, and sixth-through-eighth. Oregon Tech took third with 86 points, followed by Treasure Valley CC with 112, George Fox with 117, and Lane CC with 175.
Hillary Holt of the C of I took top individual honors with a time of 17:35.6, over 20 seconds better than Rhianna Grossman of Carroll, who ran a 17:56.1.
The best mark for George Fox was turned in Brooke Nolte, who ran a 19:30.9 to finish 26th overall and 19th for team scoring. She was followed by Kelsey Prentice with a 19:38.3 (29th/21st), Courtney Hochstetler with a 19:51.7 (32nd/24th), Sarah MacKenzie with a 20:13.8 (36th/26th), and Chelsea Sowards with a 20:14.4 (37th/27th).
Rounding out the Bruin contingent was Kelly Toms with a 21:14.6 (42nd). There were 59 runners in all in the women’s race.
The George Fox Invitational also contained a high school division, with eight different races being staged in the afternoon at the Fernhill course.

NEXT: After a week off, George Fox will compete in the Northwest Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27, hosted by Pacific University at the Sunset Grove Golf Course in Forest Grove, Ore. The first race will begin at 11:00 a.m. The men’s race will be an 8K, the women’s a 6K.
