NEWBERG, Ore. --- George Fox University’s Sydney Maluenda and Kody Tarbell were both named Northwest Conference Student-Athletes of the Week for Oct. 6-12.
Maluenda won the Culturame Classic held at The Reserve Vineyards & Golf Course in Aloha, Ore., posting a 73-72 to shoot a 145. She was the only player to break par on Sunday with her one-under performance. Maluenda helped lead her team to a 13-shot tournament title over six teams. She also out-shot four division I players from the University of Oregon in the tournament. She was named on the All-Tournament team for her play. The course was a par 73 and stepped out at 5873 yards.
Maluenda enters this season as last year’s WGCA National Freshman of the Year.
Meanwhile, Kody Tarbell was named NWC Cross Country Student Athlete of the Week for his performance in the Wes Cook/GFU Invitational. Tarbell shined in the meet finishing second with a time of 25:54.2. There were seven teams that competed in the meet with over 55 runners. Tarbell’s second place finish was the best of the season and his time was a new personal best.
