McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- The George Fox men's golf team opened play at the 2025 Northwest Conference Championship on Sunday at Michelbook Country Club, battling through a competitive field and tricky conditions in round one. With 18 holes still to play, the Bruins sit in a solid fourth position thanks to under-par rounds from veterans Brenden Borck and Truman Fletcher.

Top Performers
Brenden Borck led the way for Fox, carding a one-under 71 in the opening round. Starting on the back nine, Borck opened with a steady stretch of pars and birdies, posting a 37 on his opening nine before closing with a clean 34 on the front, highlighted by back-to-back birdies coming in.

Right behind him was Truman Fletcher, who also signed for a 71 (-1). Fletcher started strong with five birdies in his first nine holes to end the back nine with a 32 overall. The junior stayed hot, ending with a birdie and four straight pars to finish in a tie for second place with Borck.

Ian Powers and Cole Rivers each posted rounds of 79 (+7), good for 26th place. Powers had three birdies in his first nine holes, including back-to-back ones on holes 15 and 16, while Rivers used a strong start with five straight pars to finish well.

Blake Johnston rounded out the lineup with an 85 (+13) to finish the day 43rd overall. Despite some early trouble, Johnston showed resilience down the stretch, carding a birdie on hole seven.

As a team, the Bruins shot 300 (+12), good for fourth place. Fox is just one stroke back of a tie for second with Willamette and Whitman and five strokes back of leader Linfield.
