TACOMA, Wash. --- Thomas Rico led all scorers with 28 as the George Fox men's basketball team ran away from Pacific Lutheran Friday night, outgunning the Lutes 112-87 for the Northwest Conference road victory.
The Bruins opened the game on a 7-2 run, setting the tone for a solid first half.
Ryan Lacey and Dylan Hamlett each scored in the opening minutes before Rico hit the first of his five three pointers. Lacey followed Kevin Dent's layup with a three, and the Bruins held a 17-6 lead with 13:25 left in the half.
Rico knocked down back-to-back threes to stretch the Bruins' lead to 25-10. The Bruins continued to apply pressure to the Lutes' defense, and a Lacey jumper pushed the lead to 19 with three minutes to play in the half.
The Bruins took a 51-30 lead into the half behind 14 first half points from Rico and 13 points from Lacey. Dent turned in an efficient first half as well, scoring nine points on 4 of 5 shooting.
Mason Green-Richards opened the second half with a three pointer and a minute later Rico followed suit to push the lead to 56-30. Another Green-Richards' three made it a 31 point Bruin advantage, and they never looked back.
Green-Richards and Rico set the pace for the Bruins in the second half, scoring 16 and 14 points respectively.
The Bruins put the clamps on defensively, forcing 22 PLU turnovers. The ability to cash in on those turnovers was a big factor in the 112-87 victory. The Bruins were able to outscore the Lutes 30-9 in points off turnovers.
Rico filled up the stat sheet Friday night, recording six rebounds, three assists and three steals to go with his 28 points. Rico is now 23rd all-time at George Fox in career scoring with 1,147 points, and is two points behind last year's 1,000-point scorer JJ Lacey.
Green-Richards rode a big second half on his way to a 19 point, five assist performance. Hamlett recorded a double-double, going for 14 points and 11 rebounds while Lacey added 16 points of his own.
