Bruins In Second After First Round of Whitman Men's Invitational

WALLA WALLA, Wash. --- The George Fox men's golf team teed it up at its final event of the 2016 season Saturday, as the Bruins sit in second after day one of the Whitman Men's Invitational.


Whitworth University leads the field of five teams with a 3-over-par 291 team score. The Bruins are right behind the Pirates in the second with a 299 team score, while Linfield College is in third with a 303. Whitman College is fourth with a 312 and Walla Walla Community College rounded out the standings in fifth with a 315.

Freshman Joshua Lackey led the Bruins in the first round with a spectacular 1-under-par 71. He is two strokes off the lead, which is held by Sam Stiles of Whitworth with a 3-under-par 69.

Alex Plusquellec also finished inside the top-5 with an even-par 72 to finish tied for third. Mason Koch shot a 5-over-par 77 and is T-15th, while both Caleb Fernandez and Tanner Washburn signed a 7-over-par 79 on their respective scorecards.

As for the Bruin individuals, Mason Mueller is currently T-10th with a 4-over-par 76, while Clayton Rajewich finished his round with a 5-over-par 77 to take T-15th. Nathaniel Gurnee shot an 85 and is in 35th.

The Bruins will look to take the top spot in Sunday's round held at the Wine Valley Golf Club.
