Bruins Place Second at Willamette Valley Cup

CORVALLIS --- The George Fox men's golf team almost pulled off the comeback Sunday at the Willamette Valley Cup, as the Bruins were two strokes off of first place to take second out of five teams.  


The Bruins went into the second round down by 12 after posting a 301 team score to Willamette's 289.

That would all change on the final day, though, as the Bruins were able to erase 10 strokes. The comeback was just shy, as the Bruins finished with a 301-298=599 team score. Willamette held on with a 289-308=597. Linfield finished third with a 308-303=611, Pacific (Ore.) placed fourth with a 311-310=621 and Lewis & Clark was fifth with a 342-329=671.

For the second straight tournament, sophomore Mason Koch earned medalist honors with a 71-72=143 to win by three strokes.

Alex Plusquellec finished tied for seventh with a 74-76=150, while Clayton Rajewich climbed the leaderboard to finish ninth with a 79-73=152.

Mason Mueller did well to make his way up the leaderboard with a 78-77=155 to finish T-12th. Tanner Washburn finished with a 78-79=157 to place T-17th.

Joshua Lackey competed as an individual and signed a 79-77=156 to place T-14th.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins will compete next at the West Cup in LaVerne, California March 25-26.
