2018-19 Men's Golf Season Preview

A Winning Tradition

  • One NWC Player of the Year (Alex Plusquellec, 2017-18)
  • Two Division III PING All-Region Team
  • Six All-NWC Athletes

NEWBERG --- The George Fox men's golf team is back in action for the 2018-19 season with four tournaments slated for the fall. The Bruins kick off their season in California at the Cal Lutheran Invite Sept. 17-18.

The Northwest Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll selected the Bruins to finish third on the season – marking the highest projection for the program. Last season, the Bruins capped off the 2017-18 season with a fourth-place finish in the conference standings.

Returning to set the tone is junior Mason Koch, who was selected as a Division III PING All-Region player and an All-NWC first-team selection.

"Mason comes back after a great summer and another year of experience," said head coach Branden Thompson. "He played great in some regional events as an amateur and will look to lead us this season."

Joshua Lackey and Caleb An will join Koch as some of the key players to help the Bruins this season. Lackey comes off an excellent freshman campaign, while An rejoins the team after a year hiatus. The keys for the men's golf team will be leadership between the young core of the team. A senior-less squad is made up primarily of underclassman.

"We have a great freshman class joining us this season and a lot of experience with our underclassman," added Thompson. "A lot of our young guys will have plenty of opportunities to make an impact this year."
