An Leads Bruins After First Round In Illinois

NORMAL --- The George Fox men's golf team finished the first round of the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational in a tie for 13th out of 21 teams on Friday afternoon.


The Bruins shot a 308-team score to tie with Aurora University and Lake Forest College. Host Illinois Wesleyan is in first with a 284-team score, Parkland College is in second with a 290-team score, and Webster is in third with a 291-team score. The Bruins sit outside the top-10 by two strokes in a field of 21 teams.

Caleb An is the day one leader for the Bruins, sitting in a tie for 12th with a 1-over-par 73. Mason Koch is currently T-41st with a 4-over-par 76, while Caleb Fernandez and Dante Heitschmidt are separated by one stroke. Fernandez shot a 7-over-par 79 to place T-77th and Heitschmidt is T-85th with an 8-over-par 80. Clayton Rajewich rounded out the lineup with a 10-over-par 82 to finish T-98th. Joshua Lackey competed for the Bruins as an individual and shot a 5-over-par 77 to place T-61st.

Evan MacLean of Parkland College and Drew Pershing of Illinois Wesleyan are in a tie for first after shooting a 5-under-par 67 on the day.

This marks the largest tournament to date for the Bruins with 120 golfers in the field.

The Bruins will close out the tournament with a shotgun start on Saturday, April 6.
